James McclureThis week on Talking TableTop I interviewed John Zinser who is the CEO of AEG and the man who just sold both Legend of the Five Rings and 7th Sea. During this interview John gives an unprecedented behind the scenes look at how large game publishing companies work and he talks about the circumstances that resulted in the sale of L5r and 7th Sea.John has said that this will be the only interview he does at this time regarding the sale of these large IPs, so if you want to know the whole story of how it came to be, why it came to be, and the future of these games, this show will answer all of those questions.I hope you enjoy it.

The legal stuff regarding transfer of assets between AEG and FFG will probably not be done until the end of the year from my understanding, so the PDFs are in a bit of limbo until then.Mechanically, they probably won't care too much, since it will all be incompatible with FFG5R. It really just comes down to them saying "go ahead".As to fan sets, well, we'll see how that goes. I fully intend to finish the Onyx Arc with a fan set if I have to if FFG decides not to continue the story where we are leaving it off. I'm a sucker for closure, plus I just really enjoy making cards, even before I did it "professionally".I'm glad Spider finally got some traction here at the end, it makes me feel good about what I was starting to do, and where it would have gone in Onyx._________________Jeremy SumerlinL5R CCG Design Team, 2012- 2015
Dave Laderoute Hey all...just a follow-up on this. The sale of L5R and transfer of assets to Fantasy Flight Games is continuing; as you can appreciate, it's a pretty meticulous process. One of the results of the ongoing sale process is that, regarding the release of the PDFs of the unreleased L5R CCG sets, it will be a decision to be made by Fantasy Flight. They're aware of the matter, but whatever decision they make, and when they make it, it entirely up to them. Sorry I can't be more explicit, but there are a lot of "moving parts" to the sale and this is one of them.Lubię to! · Odpowiedz · 1 · 9 grudnia o 16:02Cody Kent So unlikely, they might just use emLubię to! · Odpowiedz · 9 grudnia o 16:32John Zinser I would not get my hopes up. I think they are 100% focused on what to do moving forward and that includes all unused assets.Lubię to! · Odpowiedz · 1 · 9 grudnia o 20:48
Joe Simurdiak The problem isn't that L5R ended. It was bound to end one of these days. No, the problem was that it ended when it did.If Mr. Zinser had sold the game at the end of Emperor, or mid-Ivory (before 20F, when the game's pulse was a mere flutter), I would have sympathized with the choice, and easily forgiven it. But instead, AEG sold L5R as it was entering it's biggest, most climactic story arc, with a successful 20F rekindling interest in the game, the community re-engaged through the Clan votes, and the hype train for Onyx running at breakneck speed. So when the train halted, the whole playerbase got whiplash. Six months earlier, not then, would have been the time to pull the plug if they were going to pull it.This is what still makes me furious, and why I feel like I was played for a fool. Had I known AEG would do this, I would never have given L5R the investment that I did.
