The Unicorn of The Truest TestLeon Phillips, PDTThe Khan’s march continues with brutal speed and force. The stronghold displays the strength that the mighty army gains from the chaos of war. The deeds of fallen comrades rally forth your troops to fight, pushing them to stand where others might kneel. The carnage caused by the horde as it crushes the opposition causes the enemy to fall, demoralized. In game terms, most personalities that you toss early are simply fillers for your discard pile. Now they provide cardboard fuel to keep your personalities active, straightening them in the action phase or in battle. The Khan’s Shining Horde uses opponents resources lost too, whether through discards or destruction, plundering their discard piles for the same effect. Once in battle, bow out opposing cards through followers!Leading the way is Moto Jin-Sahn, who attacks with such ruthless brutality that he tramples opposing personalities or followers as soon as the battle begins. One of the things to note is that he can ride right through followers to strike the personality beyond, leaving the followers standing around gawking at his sheer bravado. At his side, the Moto War Dogs, drooling at the chance for action. A simple command and they pull enemies off of their feet, drag them to the ground and turn into savage killing machines. Should anyone in the Khan’s army fall, Moto Yong-tai calls upon the Lords of Death, and the enemy will find themselves facing a formidable shugenja. Thanks to Will Jones and Adrian Burton at the World Championship Challenge Booth, the Sake House Brawl makes an interesting addition to the mix. While Jones and Burton played Crab and Mantis, the card benefits Unicorn decks with it’s reliance on brute force (as long as you don’t try to duke it out with the Crab or Shadowlands that is). Lure your enemy into a bar fight and then plunder their discard pile with the stronghold to ready your warriors for the attack! The Battle Maidens gain some force, even becoming bold in their challenges, essentially letting the enemy know that they’re coming, and daring them to get in their way, or simply choosing the battles where they plan on striking with the most force. Utaku Remi in particular is well suited to this task, increasing the honor of her fellow clan riders as well as their strength.
