Quick translation from a friend: L5R 5ed sales are bad (but to be expected at this point in its lifespan); don't expect any new book before 2025; no real information about how AiR is doing.

...

I had a look following the transcription in French (as my listening comprehension is lacking XD)

Some impressions

"End of the cycle" is mentioned a few times if I got it right.

"The game is in a descending movement" or something of the kind too... and definitely no new Books after the Scorpion one.

The vibe definitely felt to me like they're feeling forced to finish the two books to finally move on. Oof.

Przeglądam sobie polską instrukcję do nadchodzącej gry o Route 66 ale w klimatach L5R tj. River of Gold (znaczy się Rzeka Złota wg Rebel) i tam takie cuda:

Fajny wpis na którym azjata wyjaśnia wszystkich tych "obrażonych konsultantów/specjalistów".

Kang LD
"Thiago Hayashi good points.
One thing I would like to add though is thst many people forget that Rokugan is not Japan, but rather a gestalt of Korean / Japanese / Chinese / other Asian mythologies mixed with a healthy dose of fantasy and pop culture.
The names not being Japanese should not be an issue given how distinct Rokugan is from Japan.
The Emerald Throne, Kaiu wall and Unicorn clan for example draw major inspiration from Chinese culture, with many Unicron clan members having Chinese influenced names. The importance of Jade and Dragons are yet another example of Chinese influence.
Rokugan is not and never has been feudal Japan, despite what some confused people and "cultural consultants" would like to think. It is a fantasy creation with heavy Japanese influence, but still has other major Asian influences as well.
As for the Shungenja, I have a few counter points:
1. No one who actually practices Shungendo (sort of a mix of Buddhism and Shintoism) has actually complained about L5R. In fact I have yet to see anyone outside of western forums complaining about ita representation in l5r. As a causal follower of Buddhism, I see no disrespect nor sacrilege with the way Shugenjas are portaryed.
2. One of the major miconceptions that lead to western complaints about l5r's shugenjas seem to be rooted in this mistaken belief that Shugenja are wizards. They have clearly not been written as such in l5r lore, being more accurately portrayed as priests who beseech aid from the natural spirits. They don't just throw fireballs around, they request help from the various kami / spirits who are around. Which is pretty on point with how followers of shugendo are in real life. Shungenja is a real word fyi, so therr really isnt a problem here.
3. I listened to the Asian represents podcast done by the "culutral consultants"who recommended alot of the changes to Edge studio's interpretation of L5R and honestly I am shocked by how much "harmful" material they could find, seeing as especially how most of it was from seen from a western lens. For example, the idea of Shungeja being sacriligeous is ridiculous, not only was their interpretation respectful and on point, but Asian people do not accord the same of amount of devotion or fear of blasphemy that Westerners do to their religion. It is the reason why so many Asian religious figures are found in every day pop culture. E.g., gods are made into funko pops, found in cartoons and tv shows etc.
TL;DR: I have yet to find and Japanese, let alone culturally Asian people who are actually from Asia, who find l5r offensive"
